Cost Management

The goal of cost management is to optimize costs without sacrificing capability and agility. There is a continual cycle of cost optimization that consists of Visibility ➢ Accountability ➢ Optimization, which then feeds back into Visibility as the cycle continues, as shown in Figure 2.20. Azure Cost Management (ACM) focuses on all three of these areas. Different teams will be part of this process: the various management teams, the organization’s finance teams, and then the application teams themselves.

In the cloud, the spending behavior needs to greatly change compared to on premises, and the responsibility is also shared. On-premises developers will demand the biggest box to ensure the application performs, and that box is sized for the next 5 years of projects growth plus a cushion of 30 percent.
