Understanding governance and compliance in Microsoft Fabric

Governance and compliance functionality help ensure data is managed and protected within Microsoft Fabric. There are a variety of smaller features available within Fabric to help administrators with governance and users with discoverability, as well as two major features, domains and Microsoft Purview, which we will explore in more detail.

Let’s look at the major functionality that’s included with Fabric for data governance:

Endorsements, which help users identify the “gold standard” items within Fabric and allow a path for dataset promotion and increased rank in search results.
Metadata scanning functionality. This is a set of APIs that enable metadata retrieval from items within Fabric.
Lineage, which provides a visual representation of how items in Fabric are connected, allowing users to see what the upstream and downstream impacts of potential changes are.
