Installing and configuring the OpenStack Nova compute service


The OpenStack Compute service, code named Nova, manages a pool of compute resources and the virtual machines running on them. Nova is a suite of services to create and manage the lifecycle of virtual machines. We will use Nova to create, examine, stop, delete, and migrate KVM instances.

In this recipe, we are going to install and configure the following Nova components:

  • nova-api: This is the service that accepts and responds to user requests through a RESTful API. We will use it when creating, running, stopping, and migrating KVM instances.
  • nova-scheduler: This is the service that makes decisions on where to provision instance, based on filters, such as available memory, disk, and CPU resources.
  • nova-compute: This is the service that runs on the compute hosts and is responsible for managing the lifecycle of the KVM instance,...
