There are many different types of data applications, but when people talk about data apps, they typically refer to purpose-built tools with interactive interfaces that enable users to support decision-making within a specific domain or enable self-serve data exploration and analysis. The growing popularity of data apps has been fueled by a proliferation of libraries and frameworks that can greatly streamline their development and enhance their capabilities, many of which remove the need for spinning up a whole frontend development stack.
Data apps include both data products and tools developed for internal stakeholders within an organization to support and enable their responsibilities, as well as those developed for end consumers who are external to an organization, such as customers, partners, or investors.
