The Transform menu in SPSS Statistics (explained in the following screenshot) provides access to the core set of commands that all users use to modify existing fields or create new fields by applying a range of approaches.
In addition to the capabilities that will be covered in detail in this chapter, there are facilities to handle things such as assigning ranks and working with time series data. The SPSS syntax language gives you access to an even broader set of features, and one of those--DO IF/ELSE IF--will demonstrated towards the end of the chapter.
