Methodology for discovery and benchmarks
Chapter 4 outlined the Seven-Step Transformation Engineering Blueprint that I recommend for guiding digital transformations. Step 4 of the transformation, called Assessment, is the step that includes discovery and benchmarking. There are four components for conducting discovery and benchmarking, as shown in Figure 6.1.

The discovery and benchmarking methodologies are the same as I described for DevOps in my book titled Engineering DevOps.
The four components are as follows:
- Current state discovery: Using the output of the goals determined in the prior steps in the seven-step transformation process, conduct surveys, interviews, and scans of the current environment and practices for continuous testing, quality, security, and feedback.
