This section will discuss the secure provisioning of digital assets. To properly discuss this topic, you must first examine a few foundational subject areas such as information and asset ownership, the idea of asset inventory, and the larger concept of asset management over the course of an asset’s life cycle.
Information and Asset Ownership
Asset ownership is not the same as the classical ownership that you might think of. In most cases, every asset within an organization is owned by the organization, but in this case, ownership is related to who is responsible for the care and feeding of a given asset. It would probably be more helpful to think of an asset’s owner as its manager—that is to say, the person responsible for making day-to-day operational decisions about the given asset’s security throughout its life cycle.
