Moving a still's anchor point and keyframing its scale

FCP X and Motion both allow you to animate stills using keyframes. Let's look at how similar the process is between the two applications. As we dive deeper into the chapter, we'll see the rich features Motion has to take your animations above and beyond FCP X's capabilities when it comes to animation.

How to do it...

1. Launch Motion and set the Preset to Broadcast 720p, Frame Rate to 29.97, and Duration to 10 seconds. Press Command + 1 to go to the File Browser and locate the Chapter 4 – Exercise folder on your computer. Open the 04_01 subfolder and select the photo inside it. Choose Import. The photo should be in the middle of the Canvas, as shown in the following:

   

2. We want to zoom in on the cat's right eye slowly over time. While we can easily keyframe the scale and position to achieve this effect, we're going to adjust the anchor point of the image to determine what point we will scale into. Be default, on still images and video, the anchor...
