Configuring private VLANs (PVLANs) on a DSwitch
VLANs provide logical segmentation of a network into different broadcast domains. Private VLANs (PVLANs) provide a method to further segment a VLAN into different private groups. We can add and configure PVLANs on a vSphere Distributed Switch. For private VLANs to work, the physical switches backing your environment should be PVLAN aware.
How to do it...
The following procedure explains how to configure PVLANs on a DSwitch:
Select the DSwitch on which you intend to enable private VLAN, and navigate to Manage | Settings.
Under the Settings tab, select Private VLAN, and click on Edit to bring up the Edit Private VLAN Settings window.
Click on Add under the Primary VLAN ID section to add a primary VLAN ID.
Click on Add under the Secondary VLAN ID section to add secondary VLANs of the type Community or Isolated:
Click on OK to confirm the settings.
How it works...
Private VLANs, once configured, can be used with port groups.
