Summary
In this chapter, you learned about high availability and disaster recovery features in Azure SQL Database. High availability is built into Azure SQL Database and is managed by Microsoft, whereas disaster recovery can be achieved by configuring Active Geo-replication as and when required
Active Geo-replication asynchronously replicates the databases across regions. It offers both manual and automatic failover. Automatic failover can be done using auto-failover over groups.
Other than disaster recovery, Active Geo-replication can also be helpful in offloading read workloads to the readable secondaries, database maintenance, and application deployments.
You also learned to automate auto-failover groups and Active Geo-replication using PowerShell.
