Network performance for communication and collaboration


The next important topic to consider is the company's network performance. Whether Lync deployed on physical or virtual servers affects the overall network performance. As mentioned earlier, the Lync Server is responsible for real-time communications so it requires a fast and efficient network. If a data packet is delayed by just a few milliseconds, it would appear to the users as an audio glitch, a voice delay, or a frozen video.

Here are some tips to configure the company's network to improve the performance of Lync:

  • Have at least one dedicated network adapter to the servers running Lync Server roles. Sharing of a network adapter with the Windows Server (or host) or storage area network (SAN) is not recommended as it may result in irregularities with the "voice data" if Lync Front End Server or Mediation Server used shared network interfaces.

  • Expect a peak network utilization greater than 500 Mbps, including media data, in the Lync...
