Summary
In this chapter, we've gone through all we need to know about Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and the integrations with App-V. We also had the chance to take a look at the App-V integration with Remote Desktop Services and with RemoteApp programs.
In order to decide whether to integrate VDI and App-V or not, we must first understand all the components and architecture included with each of these platforms. VDI is not a simple technology; there are several variables attached and the cost involved is one of the most important reasons we should carefully analyze the scenario before making any decision.
Fortunately, App-V appears to be one of the main reasons organizations decide to use VDI. The integration, including the option of "shared cache", is vital to avoiding large costs for storage. Using a shared cache, we can reduce many TB of applications to a few GB, while gaining optimization of other resources, such as bandwidth and processor usage, all of which are essential in VDI.
