Description
Written by a nine-time Microsoft MVP award winner with over twenty years of experience working in IT, Mastering Windows Server 2019 is a hands-on guide for anyone looking to keep their skills up to date.
This third edition comes with four new chapters to provide you with the in-depth knowledge needed to implement and use this operating system in any environment.
Centralized management, monitoring, and configuration of servers are key to an efficient IT department.
This book delves into multiple methods for quickly managing all your servers from a ‘single pane of glass' — the ability to monitor different servers across a network using Server Manager, Windows PowerShell, and even Windows Admin Center — from anywhere. Despite the focus on Windows Server 2019 LTSC, you will still explore containers and Nano Server, which are more related to the SAC of server releases. This additional coverage will give you insights into all aspects of using Windows Server 2019 in your environment.
This book covers a range of remote access technologies available in this operating system, teaches management of PKI and certificates, and empowers you to virtualize your datacenter with Hyper-V. You will also discover the tools and software included with Windows Server 2019 that assist in the inevitable troubleshooting of problems that crop up.
Who is this book for?
If you are a system administrator or an IT professional designing and deploying Windows Server 2019, this book is for you. It will be particularly useful for sysadmins who’ve worked with older versions of Microsoft Server or those who want to stay up to date with new developments. Prior experience with Windows Server operating systems and familiarity with networking concepts is a must.
What you will learn
Work with Server Core and Windows Admin Center
Secure your network and data with modern technologies in Windows Server 2019
Understand containers and understand when to use Nano Server
Discover new ways to integrate your datacenter with Microsoft Azure
Reinforce and secure your Windows Server
Virtualize your datacenter with Hyper-V
Explore Server Manager, PowerShell, and Windows Admin Center
Centralize your information and services using Active Directory and Group Policy
This books is great! It summarizes many things I learned the hard way over many years in a career as systems engineer. It is not super specific to server 2019 but many things also work in older and newer versions of Windows Server. I can especially recommend the DNS chapter. It's not always DNS... but it's DNS. Many experienced administrators and engineers struggle with in depth knowledge of DNS and the book explains it really well.

This is an awesome book. Good enough that I felt compelled to come here and write a review to show my appreciation to the author. I've been using Windows Server for many years as a semi-amateur, fumbling around, Googling stuff, learning lessons the hard way. I finally picked this book up when I got tired of Googling around for answers and getting conflicting advice. This book answers all of the lingering questions I had in my head, gives concrete opinions on best practices, and introduced me to new technologies I knew nothing about (e.g. Direct Access). After reading this book, I felt like I had just finished working with a highly paid IT consultant.Thank you Mr Krause, your book is greatly appreciated!

Well done and well organized. Dry technical jargon but to the point.

I really enjoyed that this book was very engaging and had nicely done step-by-step guides. Jordan brings life into the boring day-to-day manual and guides hat are out there. You can see his personality seep through as well as his passion and knowledge. This is a must for the go to guides on the shelf.
Jordan Krause is an IT professional of more than 20 years and has received 10 Microsoft MVP awards for his work with Microsoft server and networking technologies. As one of the world's first experts on Microsoft DirectAccess, his authorship journey began with a book on remote access technology and has evolved into numerous writings on more extensive topics such as Windows Server, security, and Group Policy. Jordan lives in beautiful West Michigan (USA) and manages a team of IT engineers spread across the country.

Can I download the code files for Early Access titles?
We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.
When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.
How accurate is the publication date?
The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen. Often those delays are out of our control, such as changes to the technology code base or delays in the tech release. We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of the publication date at any given time, and as more chapters are delivered, the more accurate the delivery date will become.
How will I know when new chapters are ready?
