It was originally developed by Android Inc. and later acquired by Google in 2005. The Android name is derived from the nickname of the founder of the company, Andy Rubin. This open source operating system is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and there are several variants of it, such as Wear OS for wearable devices, and Android TV, which can be found on multiple smart TVs.
