The Road Ahead

First, a big thank you for pushing through and making it this far in our adventure – writing this book took more than two years of research, testing, and writing, which is hopefully two years you don’t have to spend finding your way through the maze of design patterns and their real-world applications! If you’re a budding software developer at the beginning of your career (and happened to find yourself here), you’ve gained a lot of ground. If you’re an established engineer or game programmer and already knew this stuff, I congratulate you still and hope you found a few new and compelling tools for your toolbox!

When I talk to uninitiated developers about design patterns for the first time, more often than not I see an immediate gleam of hope in their eyes, as if I’ve shown them a magic trick that would be a big hit at their company parties. When we talk a little more, I see the gleam dim and die out when they realize design...
