Adding a paper texture
There is, of course, no paper texture that really exists in digital drawings since they’re not drawn on physical paper, but we can add it as a final touch to our art. We can express a sense of paper texture on a digital drawing using the pencil or watercolor tools to some extent, but it is easier to add it to the entire page by using texture materials and layer blending modes.
Follow these steps to add a rough paper texture to your art:
- Have your canvas with the art already opened, go to the File menu, click Window | Material, and then click Material [Monochromatic pattern] from the Material drop-down menu, as we see in Figure 16.39.

- The Material palette is now opened, showing a list of monochromatic pattern materials with thumbnails. Scroll down the list until you find Rough textured and click on it.
