Using the Trim tool, part 2 — rolling
As we have learned in the previous recipe, using the Trim tool to ripple results in changing the length of one clip in your project as well as a change in the length of your overall project. The Roll tool affects two clips' timing at once—it allows you to pick a new edit point between two clips, shortening one clip while lengthening the other equally, resulting in a zero sum; your project's length remains unchanged! The Roll tool is often used in match-on-action scenarios where you have two cameras recording the same moment in time. While editing these two angles together, you might have perfectly aligned the action by trimming the two clips appropriately, but the exact moment where your clips shift from one angle to another may not be ideal.
