Cisco Common Classification Policy Language (C3PL) is made up of three main components. These are class maps, policy maps, and service policy. As mentioned previously, class map is used to identify traffic types between Layers 3 to 7 of the OSI model, the policy map specifies the actions to take on the traffic identified by the class maps, and the service policy activates the policy map and applies it to a zone pair on the ZBF. To simplify, C3PL allows the creation of traffic policies based on events, conditions, and actions on a Cisco IOS router, therefore making it into a ZBF.
