A Multiline Row

For another variation, consider the case of the multiline row. In a multiline row, the analyst has specified that the same row identifier applies to more than one line. In the case of the example shown in Figure 3.7, there are a total of three rows that fall under the same row identifier.

The internal view of the first row identifier looks the same as it does in the example shown in Figure 3.4. But the second row in the multiline spreadsheet will be different: “eold linefeed xlstab value xlstab value xlstab value”.

In order to manipulate a spreadsheet, the analyst must operate confidently at the internal level. The analyst must understand the meaning of the special characters and their structure in order to be able to correctly interpret the spreadsheet.

The importance of the ability to understand spreadsheets internally cannot be understated. It is only at the internal level that a connection can be made between a value and its relevant context...
