Having a sense of duty as opposed to loyalty
I’ve seen many examples in my career of executives and managers who appear to be taking the option to protect their manager over the company. These can be extremely sensitive examples where there is personal loyalty to your manager.
In some cases, this sense of loyalty comes from past working relationships. They were perhaps brought over or promoted by this leader. These bonds aren’t obvious to the new CIO or CISO, and they can sometimes only come from building some personal rapport with stakeholders.
