Choosing the next elevator
It is best not to rush into any decision and jump at the first moving opportunity. As said before, an elevator is a device to assist people in traveling between levels. Indeed, this may mean that you can travel both upward and downward. As the master of this decision, it then becomes a purposeful one around the criteria to choose to help you make this move.
If you want to change roles, I would encourage you to ask yourself these questions first:
- What would excite me?
As you want this elevator to take you somewhere that is fun, it is critical that this new role truly excites you. Therefore, you should ask yourself a series of questions to be sure:
- What development areas would I want to develop? (See Chapter 2, referring to Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Behavior (SKEB))
- Does this imply any specific new emerging technology – AI, data, cloud, or mobile – that I would like greater experience with?
- What about a new industry that I have...
