Chapter 6. Setting Up and Creating Alerts
Your standard modern automobile is a very sophisticated piece of machinery. There are many different bells and whistles that come standard with a new car, which may include a DVD player, built-in GPS, and OnStar service. Some features that now come with a new car would make KITT jealous (gratuitous Knight Rider reference). All vehicles also have a complicated engine with hundreds of moving parts that need to work together in order for it to work properly. The engine needs to be properly calibrated, oiled, and fuelled in order to operate. In addition to the core parts of the vehicle, it has a computer and gauge system which monitors many aspects of the entire system. This computer and gauge system allows you to be proactive in the maintenance and operation of the vehicle. Every time this system warns you about a possible problem with the vehicle, it is called an alert.
Now imagine that you no longer have an alert system for your vehicle or any gauges...
