The need for protecting SISs
Industrial Control Systems (ICSs) and SISs are fundamental to ensuring the physical processes in process facilities, plants, power generation, or other critical infrastructure segments that do not exceed predetermined limits, as well as protecting valuable equipment, averting environmental harm, and keeping personnel safe.
If these precautions are not taken, the consequences can be incredibly serious. Imagine a plane traveling at an altitude of 10,000 feet and the safety systems fail; if the pilot is unable to retain control of the aircraft, the outcome could be catastrophic; the failure of these systems to do their job effectively will likely lead to both the destruction of the plane and to the loss of the passengers on board. Therefore, it is imperative that safety systems are robustly maintained and kept in full working order so that any potential accidents and catastrophes can be avoided.
