Analytic snapshots
Analytic snapshots are more like taking a picture of a report at a particular point of time and then creating a record out of it and storing it in a custom object. These records can then be used to make a report again. Users can schedule analytic snapshots to summarize data at specific times.
The benefits of using analytic snapshots include:
- Running reports faster by reporting data that is already summarized
- Creating dashboards that refresh quickly by associating them with presummarized data
- Sorting and filtering specific data summaries via list views
- Viewing trends in data via custom object records
The following diagram depicts how report data is mapped onto a custom object for further reporting. It eliminates the need to keep two different reports and compare them.
