Migrating from an Oracle Streams environment to Oracle GoldenGate


Sometime back, Oracle announced in its statement of direction that it is no longer going to enhance Oracle Streams further. Although the existing Oracle Streams is still supported, many companies have started migrating the Oracle Streams based replication environments to Oracle GoldenGate. In this recipe, we will go through a step-by-step procedure for performing such migration.

Getting ready

The setup in this recipe consists of a Streams environment configured between two Oracle databases called DBORATES and TGORTEST running on prim1-ol6-112 and stdby-ol6-112 virtual machines. The streams replication has been set up as table-level replication for the SCOTT.EMP table between both databases. The setup presented does not cover the steps required for setting up a Streams environment.
