Introducing overallocation
Let's begin with a clear understanding of overallocation. Imagine that you've started working on a report that is to be delivered today. The report will take a whole week to get done. While you are working on it, the CEO assigns you an urgent proposal that is also to be delivered this week. Are you familiar with such situations? Congratulations – since you have been allocated more work than the time available to you, you have just been overallocated. In the next section, we will simulate this situation in Project and understand the subtlety that exists within these situations. For all the exercises in this chapter, assume that the calendar defaults are applicable; that is, 8 work hours per day, 5 workdays in a week, adding up to a total of 40 work hours per week.
