Summary
As demonstrated in this chapter, a VSAN-backed architecture can provide a very agile platform. While we discussed capacity management and considerations to be made in a VSAN-backed infrastructure, it is evident that a custom built infrastructure requires significant planning and sizing, while the VSAN ready nodes and EVO: RAIL are ready-made components that can be leveraged as plug-and-play.
The primary reason for building your custom VSAN is a situation wherein you need to repurpose your existing infrastructure. If procuring newer hardware is not a constraint, a much easier option is to pick VSAN ready nodes or, even better, to go the EVO: RAIL way.
In the next chapter, we will discuss the Virtual SAN installation and configuration lifecycle through a deployment performed on a VSAN compliant server.
