Understanding Azure Backup Vaults
The Azure Backup vault is a facility provided by Azure for creating backup data. It supports several types of services, such as VMs in Azure and on-premises and Azure file shares. SQL and SAP HANA applications installed on Azure VMs can also be backed up using vaults. On-premises workload backups are facilitated through the following tools:
- The Azure Backup agent
- Azure Backup Server
- System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM)
- Azure Backup vaults also extend Azure Recovery Services vaults for the storage of backed-up data. The difference between a Backup vault and a Recovery Services vault is that a Backup vault is limited to backups whereas a Recovery Services vault, which you will read about in the next section, also supports disaster recovery (DR).
