One of the biggest misconceptions about Primary Data Management is surrounding what capabilities qualify a platform or system to be considered a Primary Data Management capability versus any other platform. There are a few core capabilities that are unique to a PDM system, and without these capabilities, you have not yet implemented a true PDM. It is common for non-experts to use the term “master” or “primary” to define a system of record, or simply a system that is the ‘preferred’ source for that particular type of data.
