Site, List, and Document Templates
Sometimes, creating consistent sites with preset settings, lists, site columns, and content types might be required, such as when you’re creating sites to manage projects. SharePoint Online provides an out-of-the-box way to create reusable templates for sites. A site template consists of one or more site scripts, which are a set of instructions for creating assets (such as site columns or lists), managing site permissions, and settings (such as external access).
As we have already learned, lists are very useful in SharePoint for storing data. With list templates, these useful lists can be made reusable on different sites.
Distribution of Office document templates to be used in Office applications is possible using SharePoint’s document libraries. Templates are centrally managed and they are available for users when creating a new Office document on Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
