Preparing a shirt mesh for a cloth simulation
Throughout this chapter, we've explored several features for creating a shirt; we used mask extractions, the Cloth brush, and the Cloth Filter. But there is another way to create clothing for our characters that can produce more natural cloth-like results. We can use a cloth simulation to wrap clothing around our sculptures.
A cloth simulation is a technique that predates the Cloth brush and the Cloth Filter. Fundamentally, it's a similar idea – the computer uses a set of parameters to apply physics to a mesh so that it behaves like cloth. There are several benefits to simulating cloth: we can specify edges that will be sewn together, we can make the simulation collide with the surface of the sculpture, and we can run the simulation across the entire mesh at once.
In this section, we will learn how to prepare a mesh so that it is compatible with a cloth simulation.
