Summary
In the previous chapters, the concept of modeling various facets of the IT infrastructure and the associated business functions in OEM Grid Control as groups, systems, services were covered in detail. Furthermore, we also covered the modeling of hierarchical relationships between these services as aggregate service targets. In this chapter, we saw the need for monitoring these modeled entities. This need was substantiated as both continuous and real time. The OEM Grid Control capabilities of real-time and historical monitoring through dashboards, reports, and desktop widgets were covered in detail. While dashboards provide real-time monitoring based on the most recent data, reports provide a very flexible mechanism to present the historical behavior of the business services. Further we saw that both these features play a vital role in meeting the different enterprise-wide reporting requirements.
