Introduction

The recipes in this chapter explore different ways to store and integrate data into SharePoint. Many of the recipes presented in this chapter make use of SharePoint Designer, an important application in the SharePoint power user's toolbox.

Recipes are included that cover storing and displaying data directly within SharePoint, by creating custom lists and custom list views. We then learn how to use the managed metadata service to first define Term Sets and then use them as columns in our SharePoint lists.

SharePoint 2010 is capable of read/write integration with external data stored in databases, web services, and other line-of-business systems. The final recipes in this chapter demonstrate how to create external content types and external lists to exploit this functionality, turning SharePoint into the data hub for your business.
