Creating labels
A label describes a feature through map text. There are four types of map text:
- Graphic text in Layout View, such as title or notes on the map layout that is not associated with a particular data frame
- Graphic text in Data View or a map document annotation associated with a data frame
- Dynamic labels
- Annotations stored in a geodatabase as annotations feature class
In this chapter, we will work with map document annotations and dynamic labels using the same layers that we used to create the point, line, and area symbols.
Working with graphic text
Graphic text allows you to label features on your map that do not exist in your geodatabase. Text added manually to a map is called a map annotation and is stored within the map document.
Follow these steps to start adding map text to a map using the ArcMap application:
