Confidential transactions
Confidential transactions are a privacy-enhancing technology that was first proposed by Adam Back in 2013. It was later integrated into the implementation of the cryptocurrency called Blockstream. CTs are designed to hide the amounts being transferred in a transaction while still ensuring that the total supply of the currency remains unchanged.
As for the history of confidential transactions, in 2015, Maxwell published a detailed proposal for confidential transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain, describing how it could be implemented using a technique called homomorphic encryption. Homomorphic encryption allows the network to verify the validity of a transaction without revealing the transaction amount. In the following year 2016, the first implementation of confidential transactions was included in a Bitcoin sidechain called Elements by Blockstream, which is a company focused on the development of the Bitcoin ecosystem.
