Creating halftones using tiled clones
Halftone images are especially popular in abstract, hi-tech or sci-fi images and backgrounds, but can be used in many other situations.
In this recipe we will create a halftone image out of a drawing using tiled clones. Usually grayscale photos with a lot of gray shades are used, but in this recipe we will create our own drawing to trace into a halftone.
How to do it...
The following steps will show you how to create halftones:
1. Create a complex star shape of any color and blur it. Resize it to about 750 px in height and width and position it at the top of the page.
2. Zoom in right on the top-left corner of the page.
3. Create a 10 px circle there, set its fill to black and remove the stroke.
4. Open the tiled clones dialog by going to Edit | Clone | Create Tiled Clones....
5. Press the Reset button on the dialog to set all the tiled clone options to their defaults.
6. Set Width, height: boxes both to 750 to make sure the trace is over the size of the complex...
