Selecting the right tools for the job

Some of the key questions that come to mind when an organization’s FinOps journey begins are as follows:

• Do I need specific tooling for FinOps practices?
• Should I invest in developing in-house assets and tools, or should I rely on assets that are already available?
• Should I invest in a market product such as CloudHealth?
• Will I have enough ROI to justify this investment?

It is never an easy question to answer. However, we think that building a roadmap and a clear path to follow is better than choosing a product and creating the practice around it.

The perfect product to accompany FinOps practices, in our view, does not exist, at least not yet. Good and complete solutions are not cheap, and more often than not, we need to combine different tools for different purposes, and even consider small development projects if we need to cover gaps that are not offered by market products.
