Recovering an AD database using DSRM
DSRM is a boot option that is like safe mode but is only available to Windows Server domain controllers, allowing an administrator to authoritatively restore or repair a corrupted AD database (identified as the Ntds.dit
file). Typically, if there is an error raised on a domain controller that cannot be easily resolved, DSRM must be used to restart the domain controller in an offline mode, allowing the administrator to recover system files and work with the collection of database files located in %SystemRoot%\NTDS
by default.
