You start attracting bigger customers and your focus is shifting to governance and compliance. Not that you haven’t thought of that before, but we can no longer get away with “it likely shouldn’t cause a problem.” Now, that is somewhat of an ambiguous sentence, but it is a result of not knowing your infrastructure is ready for your biggest customers.

Still, it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can still improve your solution as you go. In fact, if you don’t, this will result in a whole world of problems down the line. But there are some hygiene factors you want to get right before landing those bigger customers. Not because the software solution itself is that different but because those customers generally have a department that focuses on governance and compliance and has elaborate supplier management processes.
