The possibilities of templates
Themes are great, but you can extend their potential using templates and go beyond their initial offering. You can achieve more with just one theme by changing a pattern or template. Templates provide a way for you to style specific content, such as a post, a category, or even a front page.
The following are a few examples of when templates are useful:
- To style specific posts from a category or a tag: Think of having a “Dogs” category and being able to style all content under that tag with a specific template.
- To style content published on a specific date, such as a holiday or event: Perhaps you have a date archive for a holiday to an island retreat and have a template just for that.
- To apply different templates to posts by specific authors: You could, for example, add different author bios and specific information for each author in each template.
