Most vSphere environments do no expose vCenter Server to the internet. Since Update Manager runs as a service on the VCSA, it doesn't have access to the internet either. In such cases, we can configure what VMware calls an Update Manager Download Service on a Windows or Linux machine that has internet access to download patches.
