Troubleshooting Certificates


Configuration Manager is not just a single technology that you can deploy and forget. It is a massive configuration tool with many features that can be implemented. Many different types of certificates play a role in implementing these features. We can't discuss all these certificate types in this section, but we felt we should mention some possible problems that you may encounter.

Distribution Point certificate

It is very common for the clients and servers in a Configuration Manager hierarchy to communicate via HTTP. In this case, you generally don't have to worry about securing communication via certificates. DPs are an exception. Each DP has to be configured with a least a self-signed certificate. We've previously encountered the following issues:

  • The DP cannot deliver content. On examination of the DP properties, it was discovered that there was a red error icon beside the self-signed certificate. This was caused by the fact that the logged in user account was...
