  • A clear appreciation of the sequence-oriented parts of Python
  • Emphasis on the way in which Python code is structured
  • Learn how to produce bug-free code by using testing tools

Description

Experienced programmers want to know how to enhance their craft and we want to help them start as apprentices with Python. We know that before mastering Python you need to learn the culture and the tools to become a productive member of any Python project. Our goal with this book is to give you a practical and thorough introduction to Python programming, providing you with the insight and technical craftsmanship you need to be a productive member of any Python project. Python is a big language, and it’s not our intention with this book to cover everything there is to know. We just want to make sure that you, as the developer, know the tools, basic idioms and of course the ins and outs of the language, the standard library and other modules to be able to jump into most projects.

Who is this book for?

The Python Apprentice is for anyone who wants to start building, creating and contributing towards a Python project. No previous knowledge of Python is required, although at least some familiarity with programming in another language is helpful.

What you will learn

  • Learn the language of Python itself
  • Get a start on the Python standard library
  • Learn how to integrate 3rd party libraries
  • Develop libraries on your own
  • Become familiar with the basics of Python testing

One of the recurring problem with programming books is that oftentechnical authors are knowledgeable but not good writer or teachers.By good writer I mean the ability to convey technical knowledge with clarityand purpose. No wasted words or whirlwind coverage of Python's features." The Python Apprentice" manages this rare feat of building your knowledgefrom the ground up and structure without being boring. Halfway through thebook I just got it. I could even see where my code needed refactoring.Certified C-Sharp developer with more than 15 years experience in IT, I can assertthat this is THE book for experienced programmers. You don't get dumped on withthe whole Python semantics, syntax and capabilities but just enough Python programmingconcepts and philosophy to start being productive personally. Basic OOP and functionalapproaches, Type, TDD and debugging are included.I will follow through with the second tome, " The Python Journeyman", which is supposedto be focused on professional-level code.

There are many introductory Python books out there, some of which are outstanding in they way they deliver their knowledge. This is one of them!I've recently taken an interest in Python after having tinkered with it 10 years ago. Although I'm not a complete beginner in programming, it's safe to say that this book is highly suitable for beginners as well as experienced developers looking to learn Python. Unlike many Python books, this one takes a more "peeling the onion" approach to learning. Taking you through basic ideas, then incrementally adding knowledge as your progress, it does so in a way that doesn't insult your intelligence. There are also nice touches throughout the book that contextualize why certain decisions were made in the design of Python, citing appropriate "PEP" documents or historical progressions. I think this is extremely valuable, because it helps frame how decision making is prioritized in the Python world, and why it's relevant to all Python developers. This book is the first in a series of books (it will be followed by The Python Journeyman and The Python Master), both of which I will purchase as well.

When you find several spelling and editing mistakes in the first few pages one has to wonder about the rest of the material. I'm afraid I decided not to read the rest of the book. my loss perhaps, but...

Just started, but so far found a number of typesetting errors, e.g. page 29"{ParseError: KaTex parse error:\Expected 'EOF', got '}' at position 1: } 1.616 time\time10^}"This is frustrating and should have been prevented with a decent QA process - not impressed with this which is a shame as the content looks quite good and the style is relatively easy to read.
