Bulk setup of the attendance module


For the following example, we are going to use the attendance module, that we installed in our Moodle site in the first chapter of this book, to help our program implement a standardized attendance policy that we are asking all of our teachers and students to adhere to. The policy is outlined as follows:

  • Students are required to attend 80 percent of the total class sessions per semester

  • Being 15 or more minutes late to class is counted as a Late

  • Four Late attendances equal one absence

  • Excused absences will count for 75 percent of an attendance

This is, of course, simply an example attendance policy. Additional rules that are external to the Moodle attendance module tabulation system may be established and implemented to allow for more flexibility on the part of the educators. Virtually any mathematical calculation based upon attendance data however, can be implemented within the attendance module. The example outlined here consists of three stages:
