Understanding the prerequisites of client protection

This section will cover the prerequisites that need to be in place at the client side, before you start to set up and configure the DPM client protection.

Before you start to set up your Company Protection Policy, you must verify that your client has all the prerequisite software, and also has a supported version of the Windows client operating system.

Note

Client inventory can be done via SCCM or Intune.

Supported Windows client operating systems are:

  • Windows 8
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista

System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 can protect clients in other domains if there is two-way transitive trust between the domains. This is something that you should avoid; it is better to place DPM servers in an untrusted domain and let them join that domain and then monitor and manage them via System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2.
