Introduction

Even though Mobile Device Management (MDM) has existed from CM07 days, it has been greatly improved thanks to the release of a new way to manage mobile devices using Microsoft Intune. When I talk about mobile devices, I am not only talking about iOS, Android, or Windows Mobile but also about Windows 10, which is managed in the same way. MDM products such as Microsoft Intune implements the Open Management Alliance Device Management (OMA-DM) specification for remote mobile device management. OMA-DM is a standardized way to manage mobile devices using different operating systems. MDM management differs from the CM management, which requires a CM client on the managed device.

The trending Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Choose Your Own Device (CYOD) scenarios leverage MDM to manage mobile devices. Users (BYOD) or administrators (CYOD) are able to enroll a device into an MDM solution in order to get access to corporate data. On the other side, ...
