Example scenarios for compliance monitoring

In this section, we are going to look at some examples of where we would monitor compliance and run through the process of setting this up in the console and deploying the baseline to a collection.

We will explore the setup and configuration for the following scenarios:

  • Monitoring the configuration settings of a specific application
  • Monitoring for unauthorized software applications on servers

Monitoring application-specific settings

In this example, we will create some compliance items for software called Snowdrop. The monitoring will come in two configuration items. The first item will monitor a registry key to ensure the correct license key is in the registry, and the second configuration item will monitor for a specific file that contains some application settings.
