Summary


This chapter gives an overview, based upon the information that's available at this moment and on what is to come in the near future. Dynamics NAV 7 and SQL Server Denali are coming and it's better to be informed and understand what to expect.

We have seen that Jet Reports will be available in an express edition and that the new RDLC 2008 standard will be used in Dynamics NAV 7. The section designer will disappear and with it the classic client.

SQL Server Denali has some great enhancements on high availability and reporting. The new BISM model might be a revolution in the Microsoft BI world and might become the standard in all BI and reporting tools in the future. It could even find its way into the Dynamics NAV application.

PowerPivot and project Crescent, based upon Silverlight and running on SharePoint, will become a very user friendly, interactive, and visually compelling reporting tool allowing for self-service BI. And because it's very easy to connect to Dynamics NAV it might...
