Upgrading from older versions


It is very important to have the development environment of Dynamics NAV 2013 when you are trying to upgrade the much older version of NAV since 2013 can be considered the bridge between the older and modern Dynamics NAV product. There are many changes that should not be attempted for upgrading manually. The Microsoft Dynamics NAV Upgrade toolkit can be downloaded from the Microsoft Partner source, and most of the installation DVD already contains these tools for the upgrade. The following figure explains how Dynamics NAV 2013 links the upgrade process:

It is also important that you break down the steps into two different substeps in order to minimize the confusion while upgrading. The first process, that is, upgrading from a much older version to version 2013, should be the first one, and then the 2013 version should be changed into 2015 release with the help of a different set of upgrade toolkit.
