Introduction
DB2 pureScale is a scalable cluster-based active-active type, shared-everything architecture. It has all the features that a clustering configuration can offer and has the main advantage that it is a real database-aware clustering solution. IBM started to include pureScale technology from version 9.8 (this version can be considered as version 9.7 with pureScale). From an architectural point of view, the DB2 pureScale inherits features from z/OS Coupling Facility technology, which was developed and has existed in z/OS for a long time. Applications that are running on normal databases can be ported without any modification to DB2 pureScale architecture. It provides transparent automated failover, automatic workload balancing, and automatic client reroute capabilities.
